2014 Summer Reading Programs for the whole family.

National Science related themes include:
Fizz, Boom, Read - for Children
Spark A Reaction – for Teens
Literary Elements – for Adults

Sign-ups begin Monday June 23rd at 3:00 p.m. Some programs are limited by space, performers and/or supplies. We encourage you to sign up early.

Programming, book lists, crafts, science experiments, reading logs and more work together toward achieving the goals of the Gloversville Public Library’s Summer Reading Program
• To motivate children to read.
• To develop positive attitudes about reading and books.
• To enable children to maintain their reading skills during summer vacation.
• To offer experiences through which children can learn to work cooperatively.
• To attract new users to the Library and encourage its regular use.

2014 programming includes:
Monday June 30 at 6pm: (Family) Local beekeeper Dan Kerwood will present a program on raising bees. There is quite a science to starting and maintaining your own hive. What do bees produce? Age eligible youth learn about and apply to be selected to receive a bee keeping start-up kit.

Wednesday July 2nd at 10:30 a.m.: (Children accompanied by an adult) Supplies limited. Make a RESERVATION to attend a craft session and take home your own beeswax candle. First Come, First Served.

Wednesday July 9 at 1:00 p.m.: (Family) Live animal presentation and information. This angora rabbit program includes wool spinning and making your own drop spindle. RESERVATIONS

Thursday July 10 at 10:30-12:00: (Children 7-12 years old accompanied by an adult). WMHT presents Quicksand. You may have seen an old western movie where the cowboy got stuck in quicksand, and it seems to swallow him up. Become a quicksand mixologist by combining different kitchen supplies. Supplies limited. Make a Reservation. First come first served.

All programs listed above are free.
