The Glove Performing Arts Center, 42 North Main Street presents "Once Upon a Mattress" December 12, 13, 18, 19 & 20 at 7PM & December 14 at 2PM. "Once Upon a Mattress" is based on "The Princess and the Pea" by Hans Christian Andersen. The music and lyrics are by Mary Rogers Marshall Barer, Book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller and Marshall Barber. The story is about Princess Winnifred who arrives at Prince Dauntless the Drab's castle hoping for the hand of the prince. His mother Queen Agravain, insists that her son can only marry a princess of true blood an aristocrat (one who can feel a pea that is underneath a pile of mattresses). She passes the test; unable to sleep all night from discomfort with that the Prince and Princess live happily ever after. The production has many wonderful songs and its rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and payback that provides for some side splitting misbehavior. Chances are you'll never look at fairy tales quite the same way again. Admission: Adults $15. Students/Seniors $12. To reserve tickets call the box office at 773-8255 ext. 25.
