Business Spotlight: Mohawk Harvest

The Mohawk Harvest Cooperative Market opened its doors in 2009. It all began as a little store at 51 North Main Street across from the Glove Theatre. Out of this crammed space they managed to sell farm fresh local produce and milk, as well as a variety of local canned and dried goods. Not yet all that they could be, but they had the right attitude coupled with patrons that wanted to eat right and shop local. It was this dedication to make a difference that led them on a steady climb to success.

A short two years later, the opportunity arose to move into their current location at 30 North Main Street in the Historic Memorial Hall Building. Maintaining a presence on Main Street in Gloversville is very important to the members of the Cooperative so in their search for superior accommodations they made certain to remain a part of downtown. Many times larger than their previous location they are now able to carry many of the products we have come to expect of the Mohawk Harvest. The Mohawk Harvest also has a deli that serves delicious lunches to patrons, such as grilled cheese sandwiches with roasted red peppers or spinach and soups.

In addition to the expanded inventory, the new location also afforded the opportunity for The Micropolis Art Gallery to showcase local artist’s works for view and/or purchase & assorted crafts; and the Happy Jack’s Café to offer a variety of goodies and on site roasted coffee.

The Mohawk Harvest is always a pleasure to visit and there is almost certain to be laughs to be had. Something about this establishment just seems to attract good natured and enjoyable people from all over the area. Perhaps it is that all of the people there genuinely care about the community in which they are operating. The Mohawk Harvest is supporting our local economy by buying and selling local goods. They truly are a gem in the new downtown Gloversville and they are proud to be a part of the revitalization of Main Street. They aren’t the only great thing happening in Gloversville, but they certainly are high on the list.
