Business Spotlight: Regional Animal Shelter
The Regional Animal Shelter is a great example of individuals recognizing a need in our surrounding area and coming together as a community to find a solution for that need. While officially formed in 2002 the Regional Animal Shelter began to take shape in May 2012 when a private-public partnership with the city of Gloversville lead to an Annex on 117 West Fulton Street.
The Regional Animal Shelter is a not for profit, no kill animal shelter run strictly by volunteers. They believe that all animals deserve a safe, loving home. It is their belief that education and awareness is key to eliminating the over population and animal cruelty crisis facing our community. By offering low cost spay and neutering services, low-cost rabies vaccination clinics, grooming and nail clipping services, training and healthcare classes, they are confident in their ability to be successful in resolving these issues in our community.
The Regional Animal Shelter currently provides dogs in the city of Gloversville with a safe haven until they can be reunited with their families or adopted into new loving homes. With the help of their supporters they are planning to build a new full service facility in the community. The group purchased 26 acres on Maple Avenue in Johnstown to build a $250,000 shelter.
This new facility will include dog rooms and cat rooms with radiant heat flooring, accommodations for large animals, an on premise surgical room to offer low cost spay and neuter programs, a boarding facility, a grooming area, visiting rooms for potential adopters, a lobby with a gift shop, a memorial garden and a dog walk.
The volunteers at the Regional Animal Shelter continue to make great strides toward their goals through countless hours working at the shelter and tireless fundraising efforts. In addition, the Gloversville Railfest Committee has chosen the Regional Animal Shelter to be the Recipient of proceeds raised through Railfest on August 3rd, 2013 from 10am to 8pm. So be sure to come out and support this great volunteer organization and acquaint yourselves with the members of the shelter the day of the event.
