Lecture on FJ&G Railroad

On Saturday, the Fulton County Historical Society and Museum will host a lecture at noon at the Fulton County Museum, 237 Kingsboro Ave.

Author/railroad historian Paul Larner will speak about the Fonda, Johnstown and Gloversville Railroad and the growth of the tanning and glove industry in Fulton County, a news release said

Larner grew up in the city in the 1970s, a news release said, and saw the last run of the FJ&G Railroad on Nov. 27, 1984.

In Larner's book, "Our Railroad, The History of the Fonda, Johnstown and Gloversville Railroad 1867-1893", he tells the story of early days of the railroad in Fulton County. Larner's research reveals the fall of an industry the little railroad helped to build, the release said.

After the lecture, Larner will give a tour of the railroad exhibit, which includes a scale model of the FJ&G and the mills and factories along the railroad. Tours of the tanning and glove exhibit also will be available.

There is no charge for the program, but donations are welcome. Refreshments will be provided.
