FPG Moving Forward

Today hopefully marks, as many of us would hope, the last snow storm thrust upon us by father winter for this year. For as beautiful as Upstate New York is in the winter months I think it can be agreed that we would all settle for some warmer weather. Along with this change in the seasons we too have a few changes of our own here at Front Page Gloversville.

Our web site was created as a collaborative idea that we could shine a light on the many great businesses and events that Gloversville has to offer. We have and will continue to offer promotion in an effort to support this City.

In an effort to grow and offer a more extensive network of resources to the community we have included some external links in the left hand column. We have also recognized, as many others have before us, the great history that this city has to offer not only to the region but to the nation. Gloversville was once coined the "Glove Capital of the World" and we think that this could use some new found exposure.

We would like to honor that achievement and present it to future generations. At this time we are looking to create a pictorial history with corresponding descriptive text of Gloversville. Anyone willing to contribute is encouraged to contact us at FPGloversville@Gmail.com.

Holiday Season Events

Good evening everyone,

I know that the weather is starting to get a bit on the frightful side with that fluffy white stuff on its way soon enough, but that shouldn't hinder us from finishing the year with a bang! With Halloween under our belts(or maybe at our waists) we are in the full swing of the holiday season. Thanksgiving is a few days away and winter lights are popping up all over!

The cold doesn't have to end the good times though! There are many things going on around the city from workshops with the kids to holiday concerts. And don't forget the schools aren't the only ones with musical festivities! The Glove Performing Arts Center and SkyHeart Studio constantly have events and plays for us to enjoy.

For many years I have heard people complain that there is nothing to do in Gloversville. It has been my humble experience that this is simply just not the case. We will continue to update you on events as we become aware of them both on our website and via Facebook.

So stay tuned!!!

Yours truly,

Logan Barclay

Introducing the New Events Calendar!

Some may have already noticed that we recently launched a new and updated version of FrontPageGloversville.com!  I’d like to introduce one of the resources we’ve rolled out along with the new look: the new Events Calendar page. This new online calendar powered by Google will hopefully provide a unified place for city residents to learn about public events and activities going on in Gloversville.

You’ll probably notice that at this point the calendar is a little sparse, so we’re hoping you might lend us a hand. Many folks might not realize it, but in any given week there are many great things going on in our city. In fact, there seems to be so much going on that we can’t keep up with it on our own. So, if you are aware of any sort of public event, activity, meeting, show, benefit, etc. please send us a message either via Facebook or the ‘event suggestion form’ on the new Events Calendar page. We’ll post pretty much any event as long as it is open to the public and takes place in Gloversville.

On the calendar itself, you can click on individual days for an enlarged description of the events taking place that day. Where we can, we have included links to more information such as Facebook event pages, and other websites.  As always, we’d love to hear your suggestions, questions, comments and concerns regarding this site and how we might improve it.

A Work in Progress

While this website certainly isn’t ready to go ‘live’ we understand that there is the possibility some may stumble upon it sooner or later. For that reason, here is a little taste of who we are, why we’re creating this page, and what you can expect in the future:

For starters, this page is a project conceived by two Gloversville residents who believe that this city is one that doesn’t live up to its potential. A simple walk down Main Street makes it clear that this city has a lot of untapped possibility that is waiting for the right people with the right ideas to come together. The solutions to the problems facing this city will be collaborative. One concerned citizen, one mayor or one council member with initiative and the right ideas won’t be enough. We hope to help facilitate that collaboration.

This page will be a lot of different things. On one hand it will be a place to highlight the many positive aspects of this city, from some of our first-rate restaurants to our top notch green spaces. Another aspect will be a unified place to facilitate community involvement and service with our Community Exchange. Finally, it will be a place to share positive ideas and encourage growth in our city.

In closing, this is a venture open to all. We’re not interested in partisan politics, or endless comment pages of back and forth bickering, and we’re not interested in muckraking, and juicy news stories. Between the existing news sources, Facebook, and other local blogs there are enough venues for that kind of discourse. This is something different.

If you’re interested in our vision, and want to be notified when things ‘go live’ please join our mailing list by filling out the 'Contact Us' form to the left. As things come together we’ll send updates as well as information on opportunities to get involved in local efforts to improve our city.

Stay tuned!
